University of Nottingham Ningbo China is seeking to recruit a Service and System Officer
Your Responsibility
Working under Senior Manager of Access Services. The purpose of this role is to work in rotation shifts to get a first-hand experience of access services and provide advice and support to improve user experience, plan and manage library systems and equipment, train colleagues in and across teams in technological aspect and use technologies to improve routine work procedure. This role will work together with other teams which provide purposed equipment and technologies to facilitate public access, and needs work innovatively to consider for the new applications for service purpose.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Provide an enquiry service for a wide range of students and staff wanting to use
library services. Have a good knowledge and understanding of library services and be able to answer a broad range of basic enquiries by phone, email and face to face. Offer help and advice in a friendly and efficient way. Respond to customer
complaints in an appropriate manner and refer to senior colleagues when necessary;
- Advise and support the access of physical and electronic resources as well as a broad range of associated equipment. Assist users with the use of library room booking systems, self-check systems, catalogue terminals and photocopiers; Maintain printed and web-based guides to library services. Report access problems of the university subscribed databases;
- Use the library management system for a wide range of basic tasks; issue, return and renew books and other library materials to users; collect library fines; deal with reservations; maintain library user account;
- Maintain and manage library equipment and systems on daily basis. Monitor annual maintenance plan and implementation;
- Work closely with suppliers to identify and troubleshoot with issues, report, track and record the emerged cases. Liaise with internal information technology or system support as needed;
- Act as library management system backup system administrator when Senior Librarian of Digital Library is absent. Work with Senior Librarian of Digital Library to identify issues with the Alma, trouble shooting, case reporting and parameter settings and etc., with focus on Access Services aspects;
- Work with other library teams which provide purposed equipment and technologies to support and advice for good solution with public access;
- Support colleagues in using Alma Analytics function for statistics and decision-making purpose;
- Plan for the equipment and system development in the library; be responsible as project manager for such projects;
- Identify opportunity for service improvement from digitalisation point of view.
- Work innovatively to consider for the new applications for service purpose.
About You
- Master degree
- Minimum 2 years work experience
- Knowledge of library services, systems, software and procedures
- Knowledge of electronic journals and bibliographic databases
- Experience of being the first point of contact in a busy face to face service environment
- Excellent IT skills appropriate to the role
- Excellent communication skills at all levels
- Effective time management and organisational skills
- Ability to deliver and prioritise excellent customer service
- Ability to solve problems effectively
- Fluency in Chinese and English, both written and spoken, and to recognise issues which have to be referred to others for decision.
- Ability to work well under pressure at a busy service point;
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team;
- Ability to work accurately and pay attention to detail;
- Ability to gain new skills quickly;
- Be able to work on evenings and weekends.
