Our award-winning campus offers a UK-style education has grown to establish a student body of over 9,000 in just 20 years. We are looking for qualified and committed Course Tutors in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to join us at the Centre for English Language Education (CELE).

CELE at UNNC

Since the development of the UNNC campus in 2004, the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) has aimed to promote high-quality EAP teaching in its structure and support of academic programmes delivered across China. With over 110 academic staff, the CELE operation at UNNC is now one of the largest of its kind in the world and is currently supporting students on UNNC Preliminary Year modules, presessionals, summer schools, in-sessional language, commercial training and academic skills support programmes.

Applications are therefore invited from suitably-qualified English language teaching professionals able to offer experience and expertise in one or more of the following key fields:

  • EAP/ESP teaching, including online teaching and support through Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs)
  • EAP/ESP syllabus and curriculum design
  • EAP/ESP assessment
  • Teacher training (experience in the delivery of internationally-recognized qualifications such as CELTA, DELTA and their equivalents preferred)

Successful applicants must have a Master’s degree in TESOL/Applied Linguistics (or similar postgraduate equivalent teaching qualification) with English as a first language (or equivalent competence). A recognized formal teaching qualification (if not part of degree), such as Cambridge ELA DELTA or LTCL DipTESOL is also required. University foundation-level preparation and teaching experience, where the medium of study is English, is an advantage.

They will primarily join the team responsible for delivering a portfolio of intensive EAP classes and continuing support to students both in the classroom and through online teaching (where necessary). However, dependent on individual tutors’ aptitude and experience, there is also scope for involvement in specific projects around teacher training, and the design and delivery of bespoke training packages in various aspects of ESP.

Salary will be within the range of RMB 350,343 – RMB 477,481 per annum (pro rata for fractional posts), depending on skills and experience, and salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance. In addition, an attractive package including accommodation allowance, travel allowance and medical insurance will be provided for international appointments.

The posts will initially be offered on a fixed term contract for a period of 3 years starting August 2025 (though earlier/later starts for exceptional candidates may be negotiated). This contract may be extended by mutual agreement.

All posts will be based face-to-face in Ningbo, China and contracts will be with the University of Nottingham Ningbo China.

Interviews will take place on MS Teams, or in-person where possible, with likely interview dates early- to mid-December 2024.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to David Anstey, Centre Operations Director, CELE, at david.anstey@nottingham.edu.cn. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
