University of Nottingham Ningbo China is seeking to recruit a Research Fellow in Advanced Materials and Energy Technology (OUTSOURCED) in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering.

Your Responsibility

The purpose of this role is to carry out original research on energy and environmental materials development, and carbon reduction and mitigation technologies, particularly focusing on the processing of solid wastes.

  • To design, win external funding for and execute research in the fields of green treatment of solid waste/development of novel energy/environmental materials.
  • To work closely with members of the research unit to achieve the set team target (e.g., funding, supervision, publications, patents).
  • To develop research objectives and proposals for own and/or collaborative research area.
  • To plan and conduct research using recognised approaches, methodologies and techniques within the research area.
  • To analyse and illuminate data, interpret reports, evaluate and criticise texts and bring new insights to research area.
  • To write up research work for publication and/or contribute to the dissemination at national/international conferences, resulting in successful research outputs.
  • To build relationships with both internal and external contacts in order to exchange information, to form relationships for future collaborations and identify potential sources of funds and/or opportunities for collaboration.
  • To develop and coordinate research collaborations between UNNC faculties, collaborative universities, institutes and local research partners.
  • To provide support, guidance and supervision to other staff, where appropriate in own area of expertise.
  • To collaborate with academic colleagues on areas of shared interest for example, course development, collaborative or joint research projects.
  • To support the organizing of workshop and international conference for academic exchange.
  • To plan and manage own research activity and resolve problems, if required, in meeting own/team research objectives and deadlines in collaboration with others.
  • To utilise and contribute to organising research resources and facilities, laboratories and workshops as appropriate.
  • To participate in training and staff development events as trainer or trainee as appropriate.
  • To maintain appropriate professional development, expertise and awareness.
  • To undertake other tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be required.

About You

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering or relevant subject area;
  • Demonstrated good research skills and demonstrated competency in laboratory health and safety, experience in working in a multicultural environment;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English;
  • Good time management and attention to detail;
  • Strong problem solving skills;
  • Able to show personal initiative in design and conduct of projects, and work to tight deadlines; 
  • A team player who will help out others should the need arise.
