University of Nottingham Ningbo China is seeking to recruit a Research Fellow in Public Health
Purpose of role
We are seeking a highly motivated and quantitatively skilled Postdoctoral Fellow to advance the methodological rigour of our evidence-based medicine (EBM) research. This is a unique opportunity for a PhD graduate to specialize in the development, application, and teaching of cutting-edge methodological approaches for systematic reviews, meta-analysis, and health technology assessment (HTA). The fellow will work under the mentorship of senior methodologies and clinical researchers to tackle complex methodological challenges and directly influence how medical evidence is generated and synthesized.
A key strategic component of this role involves close collaboration with the UNNC Grade Centre. The fellow will play a central role in providing methodological support for the centre's mission, ensuring the highest standards of evidence assessment are applied in the development of clinical guidelines and health policies.
About the UNNC Grade Centre:
The UNNC Grade Centre, which is part of the Cochrane Network in China, is a dedicated unit focused on the rigorous evaluation of scientific evidence to inform clinical practice and policy. It specializes in applying the GRADE (Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations) framework to assess the certainty of evidence and strength of recommendations in healthcare. The Centre works closely with national and international bodies to produce transparent, systematic, and trustworthy guidelines.
About You
- A PhD awarded or nearing completion of a PhD in a highly quantitative discipline relevant to EBM, such as:
- Medical Statistics / Biostatistics
- Epidemiology
- Health Research Methodology
- (Bio)informatics with a focus on health data
- Evidence-Based Health Care
- Demonstrated experience in conducting systematic reviews and/or meta-analyses.
- Strong proficiency in statistical programming software essential for evidence synthesis (R is highly preferred, including packages like metafor, gemtc, netmeta, brms).
- A strong foundational understanding of epidemiological concepts, RCT design, and bias.
- A record of peer-reviewed publications (or manuscripts submitted/in press) commensurate with career stage.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clarity on complex information to non-specialists.
- High analytical ability to analyse and illuminate data, interprets reports, evaluate and criticise texts and bring new insights.
- Ability to creatively apply relevant research approaches, models, techniques and methods.
- Ability to assess and organise resource requirements and deploy effectively.
- Ability to build relationships and collaborate with others, both internally and externally.

Your Remuneration, Benefits and Support
Salary will be within the range of RMB 269,906 to RMB 379,782 per annum depending on skills and experience (salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance).
The post will initially be offered on a fixed-term outsourced contract with outsource company for a period of 3 years.
