University of Nottingham Ningbo China is seeking to recruit a Senior Research Operations Officer in Faculty Office of Science and Engineering.

Your Responsibility

Your key responsibilities include:

Faculty research platforms support

  • To ensure the effective day-to-day supports and running of various research platforms in the Faculty.
  • To develop, implement and manage annual operational and financial plans for the research platforms; ensuring that these are monitored effectively and drafting reports on progress as required.
  • To ensure efficient and quality delivery against the operational and delivery plans, including commercialization plans.
  • To coordinate engagement with government bodies, working closely with University RKE office, funding bodies, academic partners, industrial partners and internal multi-disciplinary research groups to support the development of proposals.
  • To promote the research platforms both within and outside the University.
  • To organize stakeholder events, workshops, study groups and other activities funded.

Faculty research projects support

  • To support the preparation and submission of research proposals in the Faculty.
  • To work closely with Faculty members and with the RKE office to develop research proposals.
  • To support the PIs by managing the projects to design and implement appropriate mechanisms to manage funding calls, partnerships and project activities.
  • To provide effective support and advice for the administration and timely delivery of research proposals.
  • To keep records/electronic files of all research proposals submitted to produce accurate reports on research activity across the Faculty.
  • To support and ensure academics are familiar with the project reporting tools and systems associated with the different funding bodies.
  • To support PIs to effectively manage any project deviations, such as project under/over spend, resourcing issues etc; advising on potential corrective action and liaising with appropriate staff within RKE as required.
  • To keep traceable and accurate records of all research projects for future audit purposes.

The development, management and training of research support staff

  • To provide mentorship and guidance to research support staff across the Faculty, acting as line manager where appropriate and ensuring the effective implementation of best practice.
  • Management of performance of staff through the setting of agreed objectives.
  • To monitor performance and take appropriate action to ensure that service standards are consistent across the Faculty.
  • To hold regular meetings with staff to encourage team ethos and share best practice.
  • To provide informal training sessions to assist with the development and upskilling of administrative staff and to ensure consistent high quality research support across the Faculty.

The development and communication of best practice

  • To provide research related information and guidance to academic and research staff on a wide range of research grant formats.
  • To provide regular updates to the Faculty on the research data and performance.
  • In liaison with the Faculty to develop procedures to further enhance the administrative effectiveness of the research support and management.

Others

  • Liaise and build working relationships with key contacts from other Schools/Departments/work units as well as external bodies, to support work activities and to ensure appropriate flow of information.
  • Participate in training and staff development events as trainer or trainee as appropriate.
  • Maintain appropriate professional development, expertise and awareness.
  • Undertake other tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be required.

About You

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant subjects. 
  • At least 5-year experience in a research project/management role.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Chinese.  
  • Knowledge and understanding of national and regional funding bodies, research projects.
  • Excellent IT skills and database management.
  • Good negotiation skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience in managing budgets
  • Experience of leadership, experience of managing staff, establishing new and improving existing administrative systems and procedures and managing resources.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels and to work collaboratively with academic and administrative colleagues.
  • Ability to define priorities and work flexibly and effectively under pressure to meet demanding and often conflicting deadlines.
