University of Nottingham Ningbo China is seeking to recruit a Deputy Director of Development
Your Responsibilities
Working closely with the Director of Development and Alumni Relations, the Deputy Director of Development will contribute to the planning and implementation of fundraising and stewardship strategies to grow philanthropic income to the University and ensure donors feel valued and continue to give over time, ensuring the activities align with UNNC’s overall vision, strategy, core principles, and values.
The Deputy Director of Development is an active major gift fundraiser who manages a portfolio of individual prospects and leads by example in the identification and development of new fundraising opportunities.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Working closely with the Director of Development and Alumni Relations to plan, implement, and deliver a strategy and case for support, leadership, and major gifts to the University of Nottingham Ningbo, in line with its strategic priorities;
- Support the Director of Development and Alumni Relations in devising, implementing, and delivering a comprehensive, innovative, and integrated fundraising strategy that supports and aligns with the University’s strategy;
- Cultivate and solicit 5-7 figure gifts in support of the University’s strategic priorities;
- Establish an overall major gift stewardship strategy, together with a stewardship strategy for each donor, and ensure these are delivered, in conjunction with colleagues across the University as appropriate;
- Network at senior levels in order to identify new prospective donors and to engage senior volunteers in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of new major gifts;
- Keep abreast of changes to laws and regulations concerning charity fundraising, tax laws, and data privacy that will affect the way the team conducts fundraising and review relevant fundraising policies and procedures accordingly;
- Oversee UNNC education foundation operation and project management;
- Effectively lead and manage the fundraising team, helping them to achieve their respective individual activity and team-based goals;
- Implement and monitor an agreed set of KPIs and targets to measure the performance of the fundraising team.
About You
- Degree in relevant disciplines, plus extensive relevant managerial experience or indepth experience in fundraising;
- Demonstrate experience in fundraising, in particular major gifts fundraising at the 6-figure level and above, ideally gained in the higher education sector;
- Effectiveness in the management of senior volunteers and board members with successful philanthropic outcomes;
- Experience and knowledge of foundation management and the Charity Law and relevant regulations in China;
- Experience of working with donors and alumni in Asia, ideally in China and Hong Kong;
- Proven ability to lead, influence, negotiate and work collaboratively across a complex organization;
- Innovative and strategic thinker and operator, with sound business planning skills;
- Excellent interpersonal communications and negotiation skills in English, with an open and inclusive style which inspires trust to a wide audience;
- Excellent written skills necessary for fundraising proposals, feature writing and reports;
- Ability to speak Chinese will be an advantage;
- Willingness to travel both domestically within China and with occasional international travel.
