The University of Nottingham Ningbo China’s School of Computer Science is seeking to recruit a Research Fellow (in Computer Science; outsourced).

 

Your Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will have specific responsibility for research, for developing research objectives and proposals for a research project in an area related to Computer Science (for example, Software Testing/Engineering, Computer Vision, Optimisation, Human Computing Interface, Computer Security, etc). The successful appointee will be expected to plan and conduct work using approaches or methodologies and techniques appropriate to the type of research, and will be responsible for writing up their work for publication.

 

The successful appointee will have the opportunity to use their initiative and creativity to identify areas for research, develop research methods and extend their research portfolio. This may include opportunities to:

  • Develop research objectives and proposals for their own and/or collaborative research area.
  • Plan and conduct research using recognised approaches, methodologies and techniques within the research area.
  • Analyse and illuminate data, interpret reports, evaluate and criticise texts and bring new insights to the research area.
  • Write up research work for publication and/or contribute to the dissemination at national/international conferences, resulting in successful research outputs.
  • Identify opportunities and assist in writing bids for research grant applications. Prepare proposals and applications to both external and/or internal bodies for funding, contractual or accreditation purposes.
  • Build relationships with both internal and external contacts in order to exchange information, form relationships for future collaborations, and identify potential sources of funds and/or opportunities for collaboration.
  • Coordinate the operational aspect of research networks, for example, arranging meetings and updating websites etc, and contribute to collaborative decision-making with colleagues in the area of research.
  • Provide support, guidance and supervision to other staff, where appropriate in their own area of expertise.
  • Supervise undergraduate and/or postgraduate students’ projects, fieldwork and placements, as appropriate. To participate in the assessment of student knowledge and co-supervise projects at Masters’ level.
  • Collaborate with academic colleagues on areas of shared interest, for example, in course development, and collaborative or joint research projects.
  • Plan and manage own research activity and resolve problems, if required, in meeting own/team research objectives and deadlines in collaboration with others.
  • Utilise and contribute to organising research resources and facilities, laboratories and workshops as appropriate.
  • Participate in training and staff development events, as trainer or trainee, as appropriate.
  • Maintain appropriate professional development, expertise and awareness.
  • Undertake other tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be required.

 

About You:

  • PhD in relevant subject area.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information clearly.
  • High analytical ability to analyse and illuminate data, interpret reports, evaluate and criticise texts, and bring new insights.
  • Ability to creatively apply relevant research approaches, models, techniques and methods.
  • Ability to assess and organise resources, and deploy them effectively.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate with others, both internally and externally.
  • Some practical experience of applying the specialist skills and approaches and techniques required for the role.
  • Experience in use of research methodologies and techniques to work within area.

Your Remuneration, Benefits and Support

You will be offered a fixed term for 2 years with an outsourced contract effective from May 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter. Salary will be within the range of RMB 267,233 to RMB 376,021 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and experience (salary progression beyond this is subject to performance).
