Salary
173986 RMB to 244812 RMB per annum, depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance

Purpose of role: 

This role is responsible for teaching Chinese Culture Courses for both undergraduates and graduates, writing/editing handbooks, designing curriculums, organising field trips, making assessment systems and Other admin affairs, etc. The role holder is also expected to do research on pedagogical issues related to teaching Chinese culture in order to improve the curriculums and enhance the quality of the courses.

Qualifications: 

Essential 

  • Ability to lead the teaching team to develop of the course program;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in Chinese and English;
  • Ability to plan and lead teaching programmes and the delivery of research;
  • Ability to undertake multi-disciplinary teaching ;
  • CET 6 or equivalent;
  • Skills in pastoral care and motivating students at all levels;
  • Courseware production, IT skills in software application;
  • Ability of research and innovation;
  • An understanding of University management systems and the wider higher education;
  • Master degree in philosophy, history, politics or related discipline of social science;
  • Higher Education Teaching Qualification Certificate of People's Republic of China, or need to obtain within 1 year after onboarding;
  • Being patient, professional and cooperative;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Quick learner and strong problem solving skills;
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail;
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment;
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required

Desirable 

  • Ability to deliver lecture in English; 
  • Experience of instructing teaching and compiling textbook ; 
  • Obtained the relevant Teaching Award; 
  • Experience of relevant teaching and teaching management work; 
  • Applicants with published articles or research projects are preferable; 
  • Experience of devising, advising on and managing learning and research programmes; 
  • Doctor degree in philosophy, history, politics or related discipline of social science; 
  • Applicants with professional qualification preferable; 
  • A strong desire to achieve teaching and research excellence; 
  • Member of Communist Party of China (CPC), or strong desire to join CPC. 

 

Main responsibilities: 

Teaching (60%) 

  • To deliver teaching across a range of modules or within a subject area; To plan and manage own teaching and provide advice as a member of the Chinese Culture teaching team, in a variety of settings including small group tutorials as well as lectures;
  • Identify the learning needs of students and ensure that the content, methods of delivery and learning materials meet the defined learning objectives of Chinese Culture courses.
  • To identify and investigate issues which relate to teaching and learning which may arise in the broad area of Chinese Culture both individually and/or collaboratively.
  • To collaborate with colleagues on areas of shared interest e.g. course development, curriculum changes; To participate in the assessments for Chinese Culture Courses and to act as invigilator in such examinations as required.
  • To develop and continually update knowledge and understanding in field or specialism and to seek ways of improving own performance by reflecting on pedagogical teaching design, delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback in order to develop own teaching and learning skills.
  • To contribute to organising resources and effective decision making in support of teaching. Maintain records and materials in support of teaching activities; Undertake teaching management work, e.g. development of the course program, rules and student handbooks etc.; organize and manage course-related social practice;

Research (10%) 

  • To develop a national reputation in teaching and research through contributions to scholarly debate and discussion in the field of Sino-Foreign Universities Studies, Chinese Culture and Moral Education, including a contribution to taking on research project, writing up research findings for publication in journals and dissemination at national/international conferences etc.
  • Prepare proposals and applications to external or internal research projects, for moral educational innovation, enhancement projects or for own research development activities; To collaborate with colleagues on areas of collaborative or joint research projects.
  • To investigate and devise new research methods, generate new research approaches and contribute generally to the development of thought and practice in the field of Chinese Culture.

Teaching and Learning Service (10%) 

  • Coordinating exam arrangements, supervise all support processes for exam organisation, and handle grading submissions.
  • Student Engagement and Support: Direct respond to student inquiries related to course content, assessment, and administrative matters. Facilitating communication between students and other teaching members.
  • Study Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of student attendance, quiz, grades, and related academic performance. Analysing and interpret data and information and assist in the production of management reports.

Administration, Party Work, Moral Education Work and Others (20%) 

  • To contribute to the effective management and administration of the department by performing duties allocated by the Head of the DCC. This may include responsibility for administrative duties in areas such as admissions, Party Work, Governmental Moral Education Work and other related admin work.
  • To participate in training and staff development events as trainer or trainee as appropriate.
  • To maintain appropriate professional development, expertise and awareness; 
  • To undertake other tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be required.
