Job outline
The purpose of this role will be to assist and support the principal investigator (Dr. Xueping Zhao) research team in carrying out academic research which include literature searches, conduct numerical simulations for partial differential equations, developing mathematical models, data analysis on biological experiments with collaborators, carrying out analyses and tests and drafting of reports.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Strong computational and mathematical skills, including familiarity with numerical methods for partial differential equations.
- Ability to work independently with guidance, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clarity on complex information.
- Developing research skills.
- Ability to contribute to method improvement.
- Analytical ability to facilitate conceptual
- thinking, innovation and creativity.
- Ability to build relationships and collaborate with others, internally and externally.
- Experience with at least one programming or scientific computing language (e.g., MATLAB, Python, C/C++, CUDA C++ is a plus).
- Evidence of sufficient breadth or depth of research methodologies and techniques to work in research area.
- A Bachelor’s in Computational or Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline.
Desirable:
- Demonstrates a desire to further develop skills and knowledge of research methods and techniques.
- Interest in pursuing further academic or research career development.
- Knowledge of mathematical modeling in biology, physics, or soft matter systems.
- Evidence in use of research methodologies and techniques to work within research area.
- Master’s Degree, or equivalent in relevant subject area.
Main Job Responsibilities
- Assist with the development and implementation of mathematical and computational models relevant to ongoing research projects.
- Perform numerical simulations, data processing, and result visualization under the supervision of senior researchers. Support the preparation of research outputs, including figures, technical documentation, and draft reports.
- Participate in regular project meetings, maintain records of research activities, and contribute to collaborative discussions.
- Carry out administrative and organizational tasks related to the research group, such as scheduling or documentation.
- Where appropriate, contribute to tutorials, demonstrations, or student support sessions.
- To work in conjunction with others in the research team, achieve objectives and deadlines of the research project.
- To undertake other tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be required.
