University of Nottingham Ningbo China is seeking to recruit a Museum Project Officer
Your Responsibilities
The UNNC Museum, under the University Library, is seeking a Museum Project Officer to join its growing team dedicated to cultural engagement, creativity, and community connection. Established in 2024 to mark UNNC’s 20th anniversary, the Museum serves as a vibrant platform for academic exchange and cultural exploration. It brings together exhibitions, educational programmes, and interdisciplinary collaborations that celebrate both local heritage and global perspectives.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, delivery, and review of museum exhibitions and public programmes, as well as the management of daily operations and the development of the museum’s souvenir shop. The role also contributes to the Museum’s wider educational and research goals, strengthening its role as a bridge between the University and the local community.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Manage the daily operation of the Museum and University History Gallery, including visitor bookings, guided tour scheduling, and on-site service delivery;
- Plan, schedule, and deliver the Museum’s exhibition projects, ensuring timely and high-quality implementation;
- Oversee exhibition design, production, installation, and technical requirements, ensuring a coherent visitor experience;
- Lead the planning and setup of the Museum souvenir shop, including product design, supplier management, and shop operation model;
- Build and maintain effective relationships with University departments, faculties, and external cultural partners.
About You
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Museum Studies, Art Management, Cultural Studies, Architecture, Visual Design or related fields; plus hands-on experience in museum, exhibition, or cultural project delivery;
- 2+ years relative working experience in managing cultural projects, exhibitions, or daily operations in museums, galleries, or cultural institutions;
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills in both English and Chinese;
- Ability to lead and motivate student assistants, interns, and volunteers;
- Financial awareness to manage project and shop budgets;
- Proficiency in IT tools for project coordination, reporting, and communication;
- Proven ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders, including internal departments and external partners;
- Understanding of museum practices, visitor engagement, and exhibition logistics;
- Awareness of higher education environments and the role of museums in supporting academic and community engagement;
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, in line with exhibition schedules or public programmes.
Desirable
- Additional relevant training or certification in project management, exhibition design, or public engagement;
- Skills in graphic or spatial design for exhibitions or promotional materials;
- Familiarity with digital tools for visitor engagement, content management, or online promotion;
- Experience in local cultural projects and community outreach;
- Previous involvement in international collaborations or exchange programmes;
- Eligibility to apply for professional memberships (e.g., International Council of Museums, Chinese Museums Association).
