University of Nottingham Ningbo China is seeking to recruit an Assistant Professor in International Studies in School of International Studies

About the Role

As the School of International Studies enters a sustained period of growth, we are looking for a talented scholar to help strengthen our International Studies Program. This is a position available to start August 2026. 

Candidates should have a completed PhD in International Studies/International Relations/Political Science or a related field by the post start date and demonstrate ability to contribute to the broader interdisciplinarity of International Studies.

Candidates must evidence ability to teach core and specialist courses in International Studies broadly understood, evidence experience or ability in teaching survey courses in International Relations, Comparative Politics, Political Economy. Especially attractive will be someone with a track record in quantitative research methods, data science or (political) philosophy. Experience with, or interest in developing, experiential and career-focused learning pedagogy would be considered a plus. Expected is ability to teach both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and where applicable PhD supervision experience.

We seek candidates with strong research expertise and interests in International studies, European and or Area studies; demonstrable ability to undertake and publish excellent research with record or potential for grant capture. The role will be responsible for generating new intellectual understanding/knowledge through the application of knowledge and for developing ideas for application of research and teaching outcomes.

The successful applicant will take responsibility for identifying new opportunities to contribute to the quality of education and student experience we provide including identifying new opportunities and innovation to continuously improve the ways we teach and how students learn.

Active contribution to the Center for Advanced International Studies, Sino-European Key Lab and university key research priority areas such as Sustainable development will also be expected as is willingness to carry out administrative duties and represent the School within the University depending on needs and as directed by the Head of School.

Your Remuneration, Benefits and Support
The successful candidate will be offered a fixed-term contract for up to 5 years, which may be extended by mutual agreement. Salary will be within the range of RMB 450,190 to RMB 592,815 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience (salary progression beyond this is subject to performance) and you will have a range of benefits and entitlements, including accommodation allowance, insurances, schooling support, home flight, relocation & repatriation support, and paid annual leave. You may also be offered a range of Chinese talent schemes application opportunities based on individual eligibility at time of application.
